WeatherBrains 74: “Smoke Detector”

June 25th, 2007

WeatherBrains Episode 74 is now online (June 25, 2007). The netcast for people who love weather.

In this week’s episode:

“SmokeWhich Way The Wind”: Wild fires occur all over the country. Unusually thick and long-lasting smoke lingered over a large area of the southeastern US this spring. The NOAA National Weather Service launched its Smoke Forecast Tool this spring to help enhance smoke concentration and movement forecasts. We visit with Dr. Paula Davidson, from NWS, to try and help clear the air;

Mark Trail  Courtesy: NOAA“And The Award Goes To…”: Speaking of things in and on the air, James Spann and Mark Trail have something in common (other than a thick head of hair). We’ll have details on a special award given out in Washington DC;

Midland Radio“Weather Radio”: We have some to give away! Click here for details on how you get a great NOAA Weather Radio with SAME Technology for you or a friend or family member. We’ll be giving away five radios over the next few weeks. All we need is a little “PR” for the show and an email;

From The Weather Center…

  • WeatherBrains 101: From numbers to computers to the forecasts … Professor Peters looks at the numerical weather forecast models;
  • TWIWHThis Week In Weather History: Can anyone hit a one iron, the lightning bolt and the forecaster, and storms and the Continental Congress. Bill Murray has This Week in Weather History;

Dennis Prager – 2007-06-29

About

SHOW

Another Terror Attack Thwarted in London Prager H1: A car bomb in downtown London was discovered before in exploded. If it had there almost certainly would have been heavy causalities… Liberals are incensed with the Supreme Court decision to prevent schools from engineering student populations by race. This was evident in last night’s Democratic candidates forum. Fri, 29 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

Happiness Hour: If You Treat People Well Prager H2: Will they treat you well? Most would say the obvious answer is yes. So why doesn’t everybody do it? The answer, as indicated by the callers, is more complex than one might expect. Fri, 29 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

http://boss.streamos.com/download/Townhall/audio/mp3/e2636d92-3f1a-4312-96b7-2288ddbe2013.mp3?siteid=PodCast

Open Lines Prager H3: Per usual, callers set the agenda. Issues raised include: why don’t we get a daily report on the number of insurgents we kill in Iraq; what would Dennis recommend as summer reading for a 14-year-old; why are fatty foods so tempting; why does Congress have a Black caucus and Hispanic caucus; what’s the point of analyzing fiction; are big families good for kids. Paris and Joe Prager H1: Joe Leiberman tells Bob Schieffer that we should attack Iran if they don’t stop sending supplies and training terrorists to kill Americans in Iraq. This will go over big with his fellow Democrats… Paris Hilton is back in the slam. Behind the circus, her case actually raises some very serious issues. Here’s one: if our prisons are so over-crowded that we have to release prisoners early, why don’t we build more prisons? Mon, 11 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

Reflections on Ajami Prager H3: Dennis reflects on his last hour’s interview with renown Arab-American scholar, Fouad Ajami… Dennis still doesn’t understand why Christians don’t stand up for oppressed Christians around the world… GW gets a hero’s welcome in Albania where they love the USA. If the world made any sense, GW would be greeted with gratitude everywhere he went… Why did GW back down in reappointing General Pace as head of the Joint Chiefs? Why has he not pardoned Scooter Libby? Ironically, as we are getting stronger abroad with new pro-American governments in Germany and France, GW seems to be getting weaker at home. Inside Sweden 2007-06-01

It`s a facet of life in Sweden that many Swedes won`t ever experience. Inside Sweden meets a journalist who wanted to change all that – and spent a year in a one of this country`s refugee reception centres – and wrote a book about her experiences. One senior citizen dropped off a sawn-off shotgun and one couple were relieved to get rid of a weapon they`d been hiding for decades. Sounds more like the wild west than Scandinavia – but it`s just one story from the three-month weapons amnesty that ended yesterday. Also, a disturbing report this week uncovers violence against disabled women – and it`s often carried out by their caregivers.

About

SHOW

Kidnapped BBC Correspondent Speaks

Prager H1: BBC Correspondent Alan Johnston has been a hostage in Gaza since March 12. A video of him blaming the US, Israel and the UK for all the world’s problems has just been released… Norway sends money to Hamas – for civilian purposes. Oh, please. This is supporting terrorism, plain and simple… The world isn’t that morally complex. The problem is people just don’t want to face evil. It’s a lot easier and safer to attack GW. You can do that all day and not get hurt.

Issues raised include: what does Dennis listen to on his iPod; does Dennis ever get booed at speeches; how does Dennis feel about chewing tobacco; does Dennis support the Cuban trade embargo; what happened to masculine stoicism; isn’t a consumption tax unfair to retirees because they’ve already paid their taxes; how does Dennis feel about Internet gambling.

The Monkey Princess and Paul in the Mornings…

Swedish News, Events and Happenings…

These are our radio picks for Today and our Swenglish Rantings Radio podcastAll of the shows are loaded into my weekend playlist SRR20070402.wpl

Check out the:

Swenglish Rantings Radio Playlist Calendar

for past shows and Playlists

I am starting to dig out the older playlists and I am posting them in the blogs and on the calendar. . I am glad I am doing it as there are lots of really good interviews.

The lecture by author and historian Michael Doubler where he discusses The National Guard and the War on Terror was excellent. Many of the other lectures offered via podcast by the Pritzger Library are really worth the time it takes to listen to them.

Another good podcast from the weekend was the weather brains podcast. There was a lot of good info there. Some of the broadcast got into the the EF scale for tornadoes. I could have been half sleeping when listening but I think I heard a mention of the effects of electromagnetism or gravity on the weather. Now I have heard of studies on the effects of electromagnetism of the polar magnetic reversals and how they might effect weather and climate but gravity is a new one for me. I will have to listen to the broadcast again and see what they were talking about. Check out the weatherbrains.com website they have lots of links there and the archive of podcasts.

All the podcasts below will be compiled in a playlist and posted on the Swenglish Rantings Radio for the calendar day of April 2nd, along with our little update on Swedish News and things that interest us.

Researchers have finally managed to create a blood group which can be given to anybody. ”Our Arab Heritage” – A new book just released shows that if it were not for the Arabs, the very foundation of Western civilization would have been lost forever. And speaking of books today is the International Day of Children`s Books. We meet a British writer whose story is inspired by man and beast in the Nordic region.

Monday, Apr 2, 2007The Disposable Worker: Why Capitalism Needs ChristianityWith Chuck ColsonLast week, electronics retailer Circuit City announced that it was laying off 3400 employees. What made these particular layoffs noteworthy was not their size but, instead, Circuit City’s stated reasons. They had “nothing to do with [employees’] skills or whether they were a good worker or not.” Instead, “it was a function of their salary relative to the market.”

Ilana Mercer Interview

Hello, Africa!

The Right Perspective speaks to Ilana Mercer, a US-based libertarian writer whose weekly column, “Return to Reason,” is published by WorldNetDaily, the most popular conservative news site on the Internet.

Ilana was born in South Africa, where her father, Rabbi Ben Isaacson, was forced to flee the country for Israel in the 1960s due to his anti-apartheid activism. After returning to South Africa in the 1980’s, Ilana has since left and now uses her pen a weapon against the so-called “New” South Africa and the various Marxist regimes that neighbor the country of her birth.

Ilana is also an analyst and commentator for Free-Market News Network, founded by one-time libertarian presidential candidate, the late Harry Browne. Ilana’s work has also appeared on Antiwar.com, VDARE.COM, and FrontPageMagazine.com. Ilana’s work can be found at her own website, ilanamercer.com.

Coward-crats

Frank kicks off this week’s show with strains of ‘Rule Britania’ echoing in the background, and urges the British people to teach the “bloody wogs” in Iran a thing or two for kidnapping British marines. Frank then puts the Iranian crisis in historical context and applauds Tony Blair for his Thatcher-esque slow but strong approach, and blames the fish-eyed fool Jimmy Carter for creating the problem in the first place, as well as condemning the coward-crats in the US House and Senate for tying President Bush’s hands so he is unable to deal with Iran properly.

John agrees, adding his own fuel to the rhetorical fire, and then takes on the Berengians for ripping off the American people over the Grand Canyon sidewalk.

Plus, Jean Marie Le Pen’s message of national identity takes center stage in the French elections on a “Stinking French!” Update… your phonecalls at 718-761-9996 and more.
