The Cross & the Crown: When Caesar and Christ Collide
In Uzbekistan, a regional government has just ordered religious leaders to do a better job of preventing “undesirable actions”— translate that: Christian missionary activity. The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty says Uzbek churches have been warned that all religious gatherings will be under careful observation by the government.

Michael Medved: A Presidential Race to Watch
Fred Thompson’s imminent entry into the presidential race is good news for the GOP and for the country—not just because it provides another plausible conservative alternative, but because it greatly increases the likelihood of an “open convention” for the first time in 56 years.

WeatherBrains 71: “Look Down”

June 4th, 2007

WeatherBrains Episode 71 is now online (June 4, 2007) The netcast for people who love weather.

In this week’s episode:

V. WeatherBrains Extra: Low Down Radar … Newer doesn’t necessarily meanCASA bigger and more powerful. In fact, the next generation of weather radar–currently being field tested in Oklahoma, with more tests planned for Texas and Puerto Rico–is actually smaller and less powerful than present day systems. But what it lacks in power and size may be more than made up for by what it lets us see. David Black talks with “Professor Chandra” of Colorado State University about CASA;

2007 Hurricane season off and running: Are coastal residents ready for a major storm this year? We weigh in with some observations;

Politics and weather: J.B. Elliott confesses to being a weather troublemaker during his tenure at the National Weather Service … and the global warming comment that got NASA Administrator Michael Griffin in hot water;

WeatherBrains 101: What in the world is a wet bulb temperature? Join us as Professor Peters explains;

This Week In Weather History: Legend had it that residents in Topeka, Kansas were safe from tornadoes. But in 1966, they learned a hard lesson. And during this week in 1953, New England residents were stunned by a weather event they thought they’d never have to worry about. Join Bill Murray as we look into these and other historical weather highlights

Military Contracting: Front & Center
The Military has always looked to outside contractors to supply everything from hammers to tanks to airplanes, establishing relationships described by President Eisenhower as the Military-Industrial complex. Today, that list of contractors is growing with the demands of war on multiple fronts, and the contractors are taking on new roles – such as translator services, personal security, and public relations. Join John Callaway and his panel of experts as they explore and discuss the real costs – and benefits – of military contracting. Guests: Shephard W. Hill, Jim Hiles, and Arthur Cyr. NATO – Noble Mariner Program comes to Gothenburg.
