WeatherBrains Episode 76 is now online (July 9, 2007). The netcast for people who love weather.

In this week’s episode:

Hours to Minutes: Researchers at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) have developed a way to use Doppler radar data to monitor changes in hurricane strength likeHurricane never before. Prior to their technique, hurricane central pressure readings had to wait for flight reports available only every several hours. Now in testing at the National Hurricane Center, the new method can interpret pressure trends every six minutes. We’ll talk with Dr. Wen-Chau Lee and Michael Bell from NCAR;

NOAA LogoBig Changes At NHC: National Hurricane Center Director Bill Proenza was removed from his position on Monday, July 9 by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Mr. Proenza had been making news for several months for being critical of some decisions made by NOAA. We’ll talk about the controversy and hear from some Emergency Managers;

From The Weather Center…

  • WeatherBrains 101: Iso, iso everywhere. What are all those squiggly lines on the weather maps? Professor Peters explains.
  • This Week In Weather History: Lightning heats up New York city … a baseball pitcher cries foul at the wind … and a commercial aircrew’s decision to land during a thunderstorm leads to catastrophe. Bill Murray has This Week In Weather History.

Another Terror Attack Thwarted in London Prager H1: A car bomb in downtown London was discovered before in exploded. If it had there almost certainly would have been heavy causalities… Liberals are incensed with the Supreme Court decision to prevent schools from engineering student populations by race. Happiness Hour: If You Treat People Well Prager H2: Will they treat you well? Most would say the obvious answer is yes. So why doesn’t everybody do it? The answer, as indicated by the callers, is more complex than one might expect. Fri, 29 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

Open Lines Prager H3: Per usual, callers set the agenda. Issues raised include: why don’t we get a daily report on the number of insurgents we kill in Iraq; what would Dennis recommend as summer reading for a 14-year-old; why are fatty foods so tempting; why does Congress have a Black caucus and Hispanic caucus; what’s the point of analyzing fiction; are big families good for kids. Weather Brains Bios

WeatherBrains Episode 74 is now online (June 25, 2007). The netcast for people who love weather.

In this week’s episode:

“SmokeWhich Way The Wind”: Wild fires occur all over the country. Unusually thick and long-lasting smoke lingered over a large area of the southeastern US this spring. The NOAA National Weather Service launched its Smoke Forecast Tool this spring to help enhance smoke concentration and movement forecasts. We visit with Dr. Paula Davidson, from NWS, to try and help clear the air;

Mark Trail  Courtesy: NOAA“And The Award Goes To…”: Speaking of things in and on the air, James Spann and Mark Trail have something in common (other than a thick head of hair). We’ll have details on a special award given out in Washington DC;

Midland Radio“Weather Radio”: We have some to give away! Click here for details on how you get a great NOAA Weather Radio with SAME Technology for you or a friend or family member. We’ll be giving away five radios over the next few weeks. All we need is a little “PR” for the show and an email;

From The Weather Center…

  • WeatherBrains 101: From numbers to computers to the forecasts … Professor Peters looks at the numerical weather forecast models;
  • TWIWHThis Week In Weather History: Can anyone hit a one iron, the lightning bolt and the forecaster, and storms and the Continental Congress. Bill Murray has This Week in Weather History;

Immigration Bill Rises Again Prager H1: Dennis talks to Robert Rector, Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Institute, about the revised immigration bill.

Who’s Dividing Whom? Prager H2: Barack Obama blames the religious right for dividing the country. He lists abortion, same sex marriage, school prayer, and intelligent design as the specific dividing issues. He’s right that the country is divided over these issues, but why is the Left less culpable than the Right? There’s a lot of sound and fury surrounding Obama, but very little substance. He’s a garden variety liberal… Dennis talks to Frederick Taylor, renowned English historian. His new book is The Berlin Wall: A World Divided, 1961-1989… A new electronic billboard in Manhattan proudly displays naked rear ends for a toilet ad. The concept of public propriety is disappearing… Residents in Tahoe blame environmentalist for this latest terrible fire. Can’t cut anything down anymore to prevent fires. Ultimate Issues Hour: The Unimportance of Blood Prager H3: America was founded on the principal of the insignificance of blood. Can you do the job? That’s the question America was interested in. Not, “who’s your father.” We are a merit based society. Adoption is another area where blood takes on too much importance. Are we attached to our children because of blood or because we raised them? From Earmarking to Phonemarking: Still Serving Pork

Just four months ago, the new Democratic majority in Congress vowed to curb earmarks and run the cleanest Congress ever. Not everybody believed them, but I for one gave them the benefit of the doubt. No more spinach subsidies, no more “fact-finding” tours to the Caribbean. No more bridges to nowhere.

OPEC Is Not in the House

by Jerry Taylor and Peter Van Doren

Jerry Taylor and Peter Van Doren are senior fellows. Peter Van Doren is also editor of
Regulation magazine.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a bill on a vote of 345-72 that would allow the federal government to sue OPEC for violations of America’s anti-trust laws. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the “No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels Act of 2007” (NOPEC) is probably the most ridiculous piece of legislation ever hammered through Congress. That serious people entertain this idea is a remarkable demonstration of the fact that, once the topic of conversation turns to oil, the human brain spontaneously short-circuits, nodal synapses fire randomly, and I.Q. points bleed out of the cranium and all over the kitchen floor.

Dennis Prager – 2007-05-25

About

SHOW

First a Fence

Prager H1: A real one, that really secures our border, then let’s talk amnesty. That’s Charles Krauthammer’s thesis in his latest column. Dennis agrees… The new French President, Nicholas Sarkozy, wants to pay immigrants to leave France. Think France knows it has a a problem?.. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama joined only 12 other senators in voting against GW and the Iraq funding bill. The two candidates may have pleased their Leftist supporters, but did they please the American people?.. Average spending per pupil in US is now over $8000, and almost twice that in New York.

Happiness Hour: The Need to Compartmentalize

Prager H2: Dennis works out a new theory – the need to compartmentalize. Sometimes you need to be able to separate parts of your life to achieve a measure of happiness.

http://boss.streamos.com/download/Townhall/audio/mp3/b03fffae-b2f3-4f12-a0be-743c20afb3a6.mp3?siteid=PodCast

Open Lines

Prager H3: Per usual, listeners set the agenda. Issues raised include: why are most animal activists pro-choice; should wife be concerned that husband looks at porn on-line; what does Allen do, anyway; how can a young woman realize her dream to be a teacher; is working for a casino a violation of Biblical values; should experiencing some jitters before a second marriage be taken as a bad sign.
