We`re in the University Town of Uppsala for the culmination of the Carl Linnaeus celebrations. We“ll also be announcing the winners of our Linnaeus competition. The Prime Minister is not amused…..Frederick Reinfelt`s Pirates of the Caribean premiere proves to be a damp squib as he`s squirted with water fired from a fake microphone. And we`re upside down as we go batty over new research into a protected species.

Radar Velocity Data from Greensburg tornadoOn The Radar: We visit with Mike Umscheid from the National Weather Service Office in Dodge City, KS. Mike was the radar meteorologist on duty during the EF-5 tornado that plowed through Greensburg, Kansas. Click here to link to ongoing coverage from NWS Dodge City, KS;

Reed TimmerWay Too Close: Reed Timmer and Joel Taylor came within 50 yards of a powerful tornado in Oklahoma last weekend. Their video has been seen around the world on CNN and YouTube. David Black talks with Reed Timmer about the dangerous chase and the amazing video they shot. Visit their website at TornadoVideos.net;

Around The Roundtable: J.B. looks at his “reflection” in the Gulf of Mexico…is the National Guard ready for more severe weather? And we talk about hurricane season;

The Week In WeatherThe Week In Weather: A police officer, and her car, get tossed around…get ready for more space storms…and Alaska, wolves and snow;

This Week In Weather History: Bill Murray tells us about a high flying kite…a busy tornado week…and the beginning of official tornado forecasts from the U.S. Weather Bureau;

GlobeWeatherBrains 101: It takes a pile of computing power to generate the forecast. Professor Peters takes a look at how much. (Hint: It is a BIG number….).

About

SHOW

Smoke in a Movie and Get an R Rating
Prager H1: The Motion Picture Association intends to place smoking on the same level as sex, violence and drug use. It’s foolish and counter-productive, but otherwise a great idea… The liberal media is trying to make an issue of Rudy Giuliani’s nuanced view on abortion. Will Republicans fall for this trick?

Open Lines
Prager H3: Per usual, callers set the agenda. Issues raised include: when do you decide when to forgive to someone; how do you comfort your wife after she’s had a miscarriage; what does a Jew have to do to get into heaven; why don’t we focus more attention on Saudi funding of anti-American schools in the US and abroad; why doesn’t Allen change the bumper music more often; isn’t smoking a religious sin.

Michael Medved: What About the Barbaric Killers?

The Democrats deliberately distort their intentions in the current debate on the Iraq War. They say their withdrawal timetable will “end the war”–but it’s ludicrous to suggest that removal of U.S. troops will suddenly stop the fighting.

Swedish Migration board “mistake” – Allowed hundreds to remain in the Country

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: , , , , , , , , — MonkeyPrincess @ 22:32PM

Hundreds of Kurds now find themselves in an administrative mess, after the Migration board out in KÃ¥llered wrongfully signed in people with temporary residency permits.

One Kurdish man told the newspaper that he after his request for asylum was rejected got a temporary residency permit last year. The permit was no longer valid on the 23rd of January this year, so he formally has no right to still be in Sweden. However, the Migration board hasn’t known how the Kurds with temporary residency permits should be handled. At an appointment on April 2nd at the Migration board, the man got a new card, valid until June. At the same time he, as one of 140 people, was yet again signed in at the Migration board.

Now the Migration board has been told that they have made a mistake – people with expired temporary permits should NOT be signed in anew.

The boss at the Migration board says they are no longer signing anybody in again, but the ones that got signed in by mistake are allowed to continue to be so.

According to the Kurdish man, he was told in April that it was OK for him to continue to study or work. This was also a mistake made by the Migration board !

This became all too clear to him last week, when his employer got a phone call from a handler at the Migration board, telling him that the Kurdish man no longer had a residency permit and therefor didn’t have a working permit either. From one day to the next the man was forced to quit his job. He was just about to go from being an intern to a steady employee.

Right now the man is living on welfare money, he gets money for food and has so far managed to pay his rent and other bills with borrowed money.

Today there is a demonstration held outside the Migration board in KÃ¥llered as a support act or the approximately 400 Iraqi Kurds living in the Gothenburg area with expired temporary residency permits.
