WeatherBrains 74: “Smoke Detector”

June 25th, 2007

WeatherBrains Episode 74 is now online (June 25, 2007). The netcast for people who love weather.

In this week’s episode:

“SmokeWhich Way The Wind”: Wild fires occur all over the country. Unusually thick and long-lasting smoke lingered over a large area of the southeastern US this spring. The NOAA National Weather Service launched its Smoke Forecast Tool this spring to help enhance smoke concentration and movement forecasts. We visit with Dr. Paula Davidson, from NWS, to try and help clear the air;

Mark Trail  Courtesy: NOAA“And The Award Goes To…”: Speaking of things in and on the air, James Spann and Mark Trail have something in common (other than a thick head of hair). We’ll have details on a special award given out in Washington DC;

Midland Radio“Weather Radio”: We have some to give away! Click here for details on how you get a great NOAA Weather Radio with SAME Technology for you or a friend or family member. We’ll be giving away five radios over the next few weeks. All we need is a little “PR” for the show and an email;

From The Weather Center…

  • WeatherBrains 101: From numbers to computers to the forecasts … Professor Peters looks at the numerical weather forecast models;
  • TWIWHThis Week In Weather History: Can anyone hit a one iron, the lightning bolt and the forecaster, and storms and the Continental Congress. Bill Murray has This Week in Weather History;

About

SHOW

Another Terror Attack Thwarted in London Prager H1: A car bomb in downtown London was discovered before in exploded. If it had there almost certainly would have been heavy causalities… Liberals are incensed with the Supreme Court decision to prevent schools from engineering student populations by race. This was evident in last night’s Democratic candidates forum. Fri, 29 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

Happiness Hour: If You Treat People Well Prager H2: Will they treat you well? Most would say the obvious answer is yes. So why doesn’t everybody do it? The answer, as indicated by the callers, is more complex than one might expect. Fri, 29 Jun 2007 04:00:00 GMT

Open Lines Prager H3: Per usual, callers set the agenda. Issues raised include: why don’t we get a daily report on the number of insurgents we kill in Iraq; what would Dennis recommend as summer reading for a 14-year-old; why are fatty foods so tempting; why does Congress have a Black caucus and Hispanic caucus; what’s the point of analyzing fiction; are big families good for kids. Swedish Businesses are Serious in Research & Development

This is Great News for Sweden. Businesses are investing serious money in keeping Sweden at the very top in research and development. We look forward to a continued strong Swedish Economy.

Press release from Statistics Sweden2007-05-28 09:30 Nr 2007:144

Avskiljare

Research and experimental development (R&D) in Sweden 2005

R&D investments in Sweden high on an international scale

Investments in R&D in relation to GDP in Sweden are high in international comparisons. In spite of the fact that the investments in R&D in Sweden decreased in 2005, only Israel has higher investments in R&D in relation to GDP. Among the Nordic countries, the biggest increases in the R&D to GDP ratio since the beginning of the 1990s occurred in Finland and Sweden.

Total expenditure on R&D amounted to SEK 103.8 billion in 2005, which is an increase from SEK 97.1 billion in 2003. Despite this increase, Sweden’s investments in R&D as a share of GDP have fallen slightly from 3.95 percent in 2003 to 3.88 percent in 2005. This is in spite of the fact that Statistics Sweden surveyed more units in 2005. Small enterprises (10-49 employees) and county councils and municipalities are included in the regular R&D surveys from 2005 onwards and, together, they account for the increase. If these sectors are excluded, R&D expenditures amounted to SEK 95.7 billion or 3.58 percent of GDP in 2005. In comparison, the R&D to GDP ratio in Finland and Israel, which like Sweden have high R&D investments in relation to GDP, increased between 2003 and 2005.

R&D expenditure in relation to GDP per sector, percent

No data on the R&D to GDP ratio for the private non-profit sector is presented by OECD

Intramural R&D in Sweden differs from many of the EU countries, as it is predominantly performed in two sectors, the business enterprise sector and the higher education sector. The expenditure on enterprises´ intramural R&D in Sweden amounted to 74 percent of total expenditure on intramural R&D in Sweden in 2005. Expenditure in the higher education sector on intramural R&D amounted to 21 percent of the total expenditure on intramural R&D in Sweden in 2005. A total of 95 percent of the person-years were performed in these two sectors in 2005.

Person-years performed in different sectors in 2005, percent

The structure of the business enterprise sector R&D

R&D activities in Sweden are to a large extent concentrated to a small number of enterprises and to a few parts of the industry. Companies with more than 500 employees account for 74 percent of the total expenditure on R&D in the business enterprise sector, and the 20 most R&D intensive companies account for 62 percent of the total expenditure on R&D in the business enterprise sector. Small enterprises (10-49 employees) account for 8 percent of the total expenditure on R&D in the business enterprise sector. Small enterprises’ expenditure on R&D, as a share of the total expenditure on R&D in the business enterprise sector, is in a middle position when comparing to the other member countries of the EU.
The big city regions dominate the R&D activities

In Sweden, R&D activities are to a large extent concentrated to the counties where the biggest companies are localized, as well as to regions with universities and university colleges. Stockholm, Västra Götaland county and Skåne county together account for 77 percent of the total expenditure on R&D in the business enterprise sector and 74 percent of the total person-years performed in the business enterprise sector. When regional expenditure in R&D is measured as a share of regional GDP, the big city regions in Sweden are among the top in the EU[1].

The impact of Swedish research

Expenditure on intramural R&D and the number of person-years devoted to R&D can be seen as an input measure of all R&D-related activities. Citation indices for scientific articles can be used as a measurement of the impact of research and its importance. In broad terms, the level of citations is a reflection of how Swedish research is noticed in the rest of the scientific world. Citation indices can thus be used to describe the quality of research. It should however be analysed with caution. Looking at citations of Swedish research, we can see that Swedish research is cited approximately 13 percent above the world average.

Patents are also used an indicator for research. Internationally, Sweden has a high number of patents measured per million inhabitants.

When the share of Swedish companies with innovative activity is compared internationally, Swedish companies are above the average of EU countries.

[1] Regional expenditure in intramural R&D as a share of regional GDP is measured on NUTS2 level (Nomenclature des Unités Territoriales Statistiques) which is a breakdown of a country in regions used by the EU for reporting on statistics on a regional level.

The New Kingdom of Europe – Sweden

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — Administrator @ 12:35PM

Only 40% of Swedes are in Favor Of the European Union

Wednesday in Stockholm. Professor Sören Holmberg, reported in Swedish Newspapers that a recent postal survey sent to 6,000 Swedes by the SOM Institute last autumn showed that only 40% of Swedes were in favor of the European Union.

Only 10 Percent of Swedes Think that adding Turkey to the EU is a good idea

Responses in the survey found Swedes do not want Turkey in the EU. In my conversations with Swedish people there is apprehension and sometimes anger that lesser developed countries are being admitted to the EU. Many people do not want the economic drain and others do not want the immigration problem to be compounded. When East and West, Germany was unified the economic burden was tremendous. Who benefits from Turkey being admitted to the European Union. Clearly Swedes do not feel Sweden benefits or the current membership of the EU would benefit.

Most Swedes also do not believe Swedish participation European Union Military Peacekeeping Missions is a good idea.

The European Union failed in it’s recent attempt at adaptation of a cohesive Constitution. In countries where the citizens were allowed to vote for the constitution, the EU constitution was rejected.

Who exactly is pushing this European Union down on the people of Europe?

Do the citizens of Europe benefit by the formation of a European Kingdom ruled by special interest groups and Liberal Elites?

The European Media and the Swedish media have all joined with the to put the most positive spin on the extension of powers of the European Union.

Swedes are angered when Swedish Laws are challenged by New EU Laws or when European Union Courts rule that Swedish Laws are subservient to EU legislation.

The majority of Europeans have not approved the adaptation of new constitutional powers for the European Union. The Elites and the media monkeys rant and rave about the European Union and insist on moving blindly into deeper commitments that erode individual nations sovereignty.

Aspects of the European Union regarding free trade have been been positive. There have however been conflicts and real problems do in fact exist.

Dangerous drugs are shipped daily into Sweden which are legal and unrestricted by EU Law but are in fact addictive and illegal under Swedish Law.

Believe it or not, but there are Social Welfare benefits that exist in the EU that have not been adopted, budgeted or planned for by the Swedish government. Who will pay for all the expected freeloaders now unrestricted by boarders within the EU?

There are more questions then answers when it comes to Sweden’s involvement in the European Union.

Caution is needed before we give the EU any more power over the Swedish government. Sweden should participate within the EU but maintain it’s own identity, sovereignty and Culture.

Sweden’s National Math Test cheat sheet was a FAKE

Filed under: News — Tags: , , , , , , , — MonkeyPrincess @ 22:48PM

All those who thought they would be able to cheat on the national Math test – tough!!!

Today 100 000 ninth graders are taking the National Math Test. The past couple of days there has been rumors that the test was available online. But if it is out there, at least it isn’t this year’s test.

Last year however, parts of the National Swedish Test managed to leak out prior to the test date. However, there is always a replacement test that can be sent out to schools where the teachers suspect that a test has been leaking out to the students somehow.

Democratic Stronghold found to be 1/3 Illiterate

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: , , , , , — Administrator @ 17:46PM

Study Finds One-Third in D.C. Illiterate, almost all of them found to be loyal voting Democrats

It was not released how many of the highlighted 1/3 in the study held elected office.

WASHINGTON (AP) – About one-third of the people living in the national’s capital are functionally illiterate, compared with about one-fifth nationally, according to a report on the District of Columbia. Adults are considered functionally illiterate if they have trouble doing such things as comprehending bus schedules, reading maps and filling out job applications.

The study by the State Education Agency, a quasi-governmental office created by the U.S. Department of Education to distribute federal funds for literacy services, was ordered by Mayor Anthony A. Williams in 2003 as part of his four-year, $4 million adult literacy initiative.

The growing number of Hispanic and Ethiopian immigrants who aren’t proficient in English contributed to the city’s high functional illiteracy level, which translated to 170,000 people, said Connie Spinner, director of the State Education Agency. The report says the district’s functional illiteracy rate is 36 percent and the nation’s 21 percent.

Adults age 65 and older had the lowest literacy score of any group, the report found.

The District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce, which contributed to the report, said the city lost up to $107 million in taxes annually between 2000 and 2005 because of a lack of qualified job applicants.

Media Madness & Stem Cell pipe dreams/NIGHTMARES

The Media is all for Stem Cell research and the sheep are all lined up in the Universities.

The students will rush out of class to protest genetic engineering of wheat but will fall in line when scientists make thousands of little babies in jars and kill them just before they become Hollywood monsters.

 Maybe the mound Bush is standing on in the cartoon is a pile of dead babies covered by Liberal Media Mud.

The Media is all for killing babies but try and execute on Murderer and they are all agast.

IRAQ EXIT STRATEGY

WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

REMOVE SADDAM.

HOLD ELECTIONS.

HELP IRAQ SECURE IT’S BORDERS AGAINST SYRIA, IRAN, Al-Qaeda AND OTHER ISLAMIC TERRORIST GROUPS.

THIS SEEMS PRETTY CLEAR TO ME.

THE MEDIA WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE THAT BUSH IS STUPID.

BUSH WENT TO YALE AND HARVARD.

GORE HAD POORER GRADES THEN BUSH.

BUSH BECAME A PILOT AND FLEW FIGHTER JETS.

KERRY SUBMITTED HIS OWN PURPLE HEART APPLICATIONS AND SPENT JUST A FEW MONTHS IN VIETNAM. HOW DOES SOMEONE GET A PURPLE HEART AND NEVER HAVE TO SPEND A NIGHT IN THE HOSPITAL?

KERRY JUST ABOUT FAILED OUT OF SCHOOL OR IN THE BEST LIGHT WAS A MUCH POORER STUDENT THEN GEORGE W. BUSH.

THE MEDIA TELLS YOU ON LATE NIGHT, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE AND LETTERMAN THAT BUSH IS THE STUPID ONE. THE LIBERAL PIGS OWN THE MEDIA. YOU TELL A LIE OVER ALL THE TV STATIONS AND IN ALL THE NEWSPAPERS IT MUST BE TRUE.

THE MEDIA SAYS THERE IS NO EXIT STRATEGY. THIS IS BULLSHIT.

SECURE THE BOARDERS, FORM A GOVERNMENT AND LEAVE.

SIMPLE.

WE ALL REMEMBER THE MILLIONS OF LIVES LOST IN SOUTH EAST ASIA BECAUSE OF THE MEDIA AND LIBERAL PRESSURE TO EXIT THE REGION. THE KILLING FIELDS, THE PAIN AND THE MASS MURDER ARE ALL AT THE FEET OF THE LIBERALS AND THE MEDIA.

THE MEDIA WILL NOT TAKE OWNERSHIP, THEY LOVE THEIR PHOTO OPS WITH THE TYRANTS OF THE WORLD. WHEN BARBRA WALTERS OR THE 60 ANTI-AMERICAN MINUTES GERIATRIC SQUAD GREETS THEIR COMMUNIST OR DICTATOR BROTHERS IT IS JUST LIKE SEEING HANOI JANE DRY HUMPING AN ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN AT THE READY TO SHOOT DOWN AND KILL AMERICAN PILOTS.
