Press release from Statistics Sweden
2007-05-24 09:30 Nr 2007:136

Labour Force Survey, April 2007:

Another month with strong increase in employment

In April, the number of employed people amounted to 4 393 000 (±31 000), an increase of 156 000 compared to April 2006.

The Government has proposed to revoke the earlier decision from 1986 regarding definitions in the labour force survey. Pending a decision, Statistics Sweden will continue to publish as previously.  More information.

Young people aged 16-24 made up for a large part of the increase, 64 000. Employment increased in the business services industry and in trade and communication industries. 211 000 (±14 000) persons were unemployed, a decrease of 37 000 compared to April 2006. The unemployment rate was 4.6 (±0.4) percent, a decrease from 5.5 percent one year ago. The decrease was statistically significant only for men. For young people, the decrease was considerable, from 14.6 to 10.4 (±1.6) percent. The number of hours worked was on average 136.6 (±1.5) million hours per week, an increase of about 4.5 percent compared to April 2006.

Please note! April 2005 a new EU-harmonised LFS was introduced. This caused a break in comparability over time. For the time being, the changes also make it impossible to produce seasonally adjusted data from April 2005 and onwards. As soon as seasonally adjusted data are available the above graph will be updated. For more information see www.scb.se/lfs.
